Brief Description of the Project
India was ranked 54th out of 117 economies under the WEF – Travel & Tourism Development Index 2021 (i.e. 8 ranks down from 2019). Ministry of Tourism, Government of India aimed at identifying areas of downgrade and development of strategic road map towards improving the rank in subsequent editions of the WEF Index. Further, the project involved the development of India’s own State Tourism Index which can rank States/destinations on tourism parameters and help India to achieve a holistic tourism sector development.
Services Provided
A Program Management team consisting of 5-members was established to deliver the following scope of services –
- In-depth secondary research on the TTDI indicators and Gap analysis to identify the key areas where India is lagging based on India’s performance in the Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) over the past years.
- Identify and develop indicator-wise short, medium, and long-term action plans as well as their communication and follow-up with the concerned line ministries/departments, to monitor and improve the country’s performance in TTDI.
- Examine the sources for published data and establish a mechanism to ensure its accuracy. Establish an active engagement mechanism with the publishing agency to address the concerns related to the Index, along with regular consultations with concerned Ministries / Departments and other stakeholders incl. NITI Aayog.
- Engage regularly with State/UTs and concerned line Ministries/Departments to seek necessary inputs related to the data source of indicators, reform area, actions, targets, etc. about State Ranking Framework for evaluation, ranking, and follow-up on improvement measures.
- Regular consultations and updating of data on an online dashboard maintained by NITI Aayog.
- Prepare necessary Status Reports/analytical reports of the progress of work done concerning each index required for monthly meetings of the Sectoral Group of Secretaries and other meetings related to the improvement of the performance of India’s ranking as per need.
- Prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) documents and assist in the evaluation of bidding documents for the selection of agencies for conducting research/studies on varied subjects of tourism.
- Monitoring the progress of submission of deliverables of the study reports by the selected agencies, coordination with the study agency, analysis of the study report submitted by the agencies, and follow-up on the action taken per the outcomes/recommendations of the study report.
